Appointing new Chairman and CFO, opening new UK office, whilst progressing with unique technology
Edinburgh. UK. September 22, 2025. Nanusens, the MEMS innovator, has announced the appointment of a new Chairman, Ramon Borrell, former Xaar CTO, and a new CFO, Núria Martí, as well as the relocation of its Headquarters to Edinburgh, as the company begins the next phase of its development.
Nanusens is leading the way with a breakthrough technology that enables MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) structures to be created with the layers of a CMOS chip using standard processes in CMOS fabs. This innovative approach radically reduces the cost because of the vast economies of scale of using giant CMOS fabs. The resulting MEMS devices and the required control circuitry form single chip solutions that are significantly smaller than their current, multi-component equivalents. Traditional MEMS structures have feature sizes of one micron or larger while the Nanusens NEMS (Nano Electro Mechanical Systems) structures have features of 0.3 microns or less. This is a 100x area reduction.
According to Dr. Josep Montanyà, CEO at Nanusens: “This is an exciting time for Nanusens. Behind the scenes we are taking huge strides forward with our ground-breaking MEMS technology, especially with our RF Digitally Tunable Capacitors (DTCs) which look set to have a major impact on the mobile phone sector. We are making changes within the company to support this. Both Ramon and Núria have extensive experience in their fields so they will be a big asset to the team as we drive adoption of our unique technology.”
Ramon Borrell has over 30 years of experience in technical and management positions in companies focused on MEMS inkjet printheads and applications. Previously he has worked at Xaar, HP and Quantica. Ramon has also been a Director in a number of listed and private companies, as well as in non-profit organizations such as research centers and global professional societies.
Ramon comments: “I am delighted to join Nanusens. The team has leveraged its disruptive technology for building MEMS structures using standard CMOS to create digitally tunable MEMS capacitors with the CMOS layers, an innovation which offers the low losses and high linearity that is required for 6G phones. Nanusens is the only company with an ultra-compact, low-cost and power-efficient solution that meets the needs of the RF Front End of 6G mobile phones. It’s great to be part of this journey.”
Núria Martí has over 15 years of experience in finance and operations. An economist who specializes in working for technology companies, formerly she was the CFO at Linke (now Syntax).
Núria comments: “As Nanusens has offices in Edinburgh in the UK and near Barcelona in Spain, and operates internationally, the finance and operations departments are focused on driving the growth and consolidation of these global relationships. Joining Nanusens at this stage is a unique opportunity to contribute to something meaningful and pioneering. I am excited to bring my experience and help steer the company through its next chapter.”
Josep concludes: “At Nanusens, we have taken the strategic decision to move our Headquarters to Edinburgh as this region is renowned for its semiconductor engineering expertise. We continue to work on our novel technology to build nanoscale MEMS in CMOS layers for sensors and RF Front End antenna tuners. Nanusens is also looking to develop our technology for other applications such as gyroscopes, magnetometers, pressure sensors and gas sensors. This could open up other markets including automotive, medical and aerospace. The opportunities are actually almost endless.”
